They are the southern neighbours of Chateau Beychevelle and Gruaud Larose, on the border with the Saint Julien appellation.

Their history dates back to 1793. Since 1907, the Bouteiller family has owned this chateau. Since 1960 they have had 80 hectares of vineyards. In 2004, the oenologist Eric Boissenot began working with Chateau Lanessan. In 2009, the family decided that they no longer wanted to manage their Chateau and agreed with Mrs Paz Espejo, an oenologist from Madrid, that she would manage Lanessan until 2020. In 2012, they invested a lot of money in technical equipment, including an optical sorter, so that their technology is on a par with Grand Crus wineries.
